Middle school (ages 11-14 years)

The International School of Krakow's middle school includes grades 6 - 8. Each class has a homeroom teacher for morning and afternoon registration and general guidance, but classes are taught by subject specialist teachers.

ISK is a member of the European League for Middle Level Education (ELMLE).

What is ELMLE?

The European League for Middle Level Education was the first international affiliate of the National Middle School Association (NMSA), based in Ohio, USA. ELMLE was founded in 1986 and is dedicated to promoting and improving middle level education at international and overseas schools throughout the greater European and Mediterranean regions. Through affiliation with the NMSA, ELMLE keeps its international membership informed about the latest trends and practices in education for youth between the ages of 10 to 15.

Why is ISK a member of ELMLE?

The International School of Krakow is member of ELMLE because we share similar ideas and goals concerning middle-grade students. At ISK we believe that middle school is a pivotal period in the development of a person's values, interests, identity and behavior. Perhaps no other period in a person's life has such profound impact as that of early adolescents. ELMLE and NMSA share and promote these ideas through a wide range of programs and materials. Their objectives are the following:

  • to promote unity among middle level educators in overseas schools
  • to encourage the implementation of middle level concepts to include staff development
  • to provide leadership in planning and developing middle level education
  • to serve as a clearing house resource body for the exchange of ideas
  • to sponsor an annual conference for middle level educators

Being a member of ELMLE allows middle school educators at ISK to take advantage of professional development opportunities offered by ELMLE and NMSA through conferences and publications. ISK also benefits greatly from the the associations' commitment as a clearing house, allowing our educators to exchange ideas with middle-level educators around the world.
